Week 1: Introduction to Deep Breathing

Objective: Introduce participants to the basics of deep breathing and its benefits.

Lesson Plan:

1. Welcome and Introduction (5 minutes)

  • "Welcome everyone! Today, we begin our journey into mindful breathing. This practice can help reduce stress, increase focus, and improve overall health."

2. Explanation of Deep Breathing (5 minutes)

  • "Deep breathing involves taking slow, deep breaths to oxygenate the body and calm the mind. It's a simple yet powerful technique."

3. Deep Breathing Exercise (10 minutes)

  • "Let's start by sitting comfortably. Close your eyes if you feel comfortable doing so. Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen."

  • "Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of 4. Feel your abdomen rise."

  • "Hold your breath for a count of 4."

  • "Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 6. Feel your abdomen fall."

  • "Repeat this for 5 minutes."

4. Reflection and Discussion (10 minutes)

  • "How did that feel? Did you notice any changes in your body or mind? Feel free to share your experience."

5. Homework Assignment (5 minutes)

  • "Practice deep breathing for 5 minutes every day this week. Notice how it affects your mood and energy levels."

Week 2: Box Breathing

Objective: Teach participants the box breathing technique to enhance focus and relaxation.

Lesson Plan:

1. Welcome and Recap (5 minutes)

  • "Welcome back! Let's quickly recap our experience with deep breathing last week. How did it go for everyone?"

2. Explanation of Box Breathing (5 minutes)

  • "Box breathing involves inhaling, holding, exhaling, and holding your breath again, each for an equal count. This technique is great for calming the mind and improving focus."

3. Box Breathing Exercise (10 minutes)

  • "Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Visualize a box in your mind."

  • "Inhale through your nose for a count of 4."

  • "Hold your breath for a count of 4."

  • "Exhale through your mouth for a count of 4."

  • "Hold your breath again for a count of 4."

  • "Repeat this for 5 minutes."

4. Reflection and Discussion (10 minutes)

  • "How did box breathing compare to deep breathing? Did you find it easier or more challenging? Share your thoughts."

5. Homework Assignment (5 minutes)

  • "Practice box breathing for 5 minutes every day this week. Pay attention to any changes in your focus and stress levels."

Week 3: 4-7-8 Breathing

Objective: Introduce the 4-7-8 breathing technique to promote relaxation and reduce anxiety.

Lesson Plan:

1. Welcome and Recap (5 minutes)

  • "Welcome back! Let's share our experiences with box breathing. Did anyone notice a difference in their focus or stress levels?"

2. Explanation of 4-7-8 Breathing (5 minutes)

  • "The 4-7-8 breathing technique involves inhaling for 4 counts, holding for 7, and exhaling for 8. This method can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation."

3. 4-7-8 Breathing Exercise (10 minutes)

  • "Sit comfortably and close your eyes."

  • "Inhale through your nose for a count of 4."

  • "Hold your breath for a count of 7."

  • "Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 8."

  • "Repeat this for 5 minutes."

4. Reflection and Discussion (10 minutes)

  • "How did the 4-7-8 breathing feel? Did it help you relax? Share your experiences."

5. Homework Assignment (5 minutes)

  • "Practice the 4-7-8 breathing technique for 5 minutes every day this week. Observe any changes in your anxiety and relaxation levels."

Week 4: Alternate Nostril Breathing

Objective: Teach participants alternate nostril breathing to balance the mind and body.

Lesson Plan:

1. Welcome and Recap (5 minutes)

  • "Welcome back! Let's discuss our experiences with the 4-7-8 breathing technique. How did it affect your anxiety and relaxation?"

2. Explanation of Alternate Nostril Breathing (5 minutes)

  • "Alternate nostril breathing helps balance the mind and body by alternating the breath between nostrils. It's a great way to find inner calm and clarity."


3. Alternate Nostril Breathing Exercise (10 minutes)

  • "Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Use your right thumb to close your right nostril."

  • "Inhale deeply through your left nostril for a count of 4."

  • "Close your left nostril with your right ring finger and hold your breath for a count of 4.
